Activity Grade-III – Tango with Tangrams

Mathematics is always an enjoyable learning experience with tangrams. The tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes called tans, which are put together to form different shapes. The objective of the puzzle was to form a specific shape using all seven pieces, which can not overlap.

The students worked together in a group of five and each group was provid

ed with a set of tangram. The encouragement was provided to the children to use a variety of permutations and combinations so as to come up with a shape consisting of all the tans. Overall, playing with Tangrams truly helped in enhancing the skill of critical thinking, problem solving and spatial reasoning.

The group activity was judged on the following criteria-

  • Knowledge of shapes
  • Creativity
  • Presentation
  • Time taken
