NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY, 2024

National Mathematics Day Celebration at Maxfort School, Rohini – 20 December, 2024

Maxfort School Rohini celebrated National Mathematics Day on 20 December, 2024, through a series of engaging and thought-provoking activities that honored the contributions of the great Indian Mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. The celebration aimed to inspire students to appreciate the beauty of mathematics and its relevance in daily life.

The day commenced with a Class IX PowerPoint Presentation on the life and achievements of Srinivasa Ramanujan. The students meticulously showcased Ramanujan’s remarkable journey from a self-taught Mathematician to one of the greatest minds in the world of numbers. The presentation highlighted his profound contributions to number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions, making the audience aware of his legacy in the mathematical world. Following the presentation, a quiz competition was organised, where students tested their knowledge about Ramanujan’s life and his mathematical discoveries. The quiz created an atmosphere of friendly competition and excitement among the participants.

In the second segment, Class X students displayed their creativity and mathematical knowledge through a Model Presentation. The students presented models that reflected various mathematical concepts, demonstrating the practical application of mathematical theories in real-world situations. It highlights the importance of hands-on, practical applications of mathematical concepts to make them more accessible, engaging, and meaningful. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, these models demonstrate the relevance and beauty of mathematics in real-world contexts.

This approach can help:

  1. Deepen understanding and retention of mathematical concepts
  2. Foster curiosity and enthusiasm for mathematics
  3. Develop problem-solving skills and critical thinking
  4. Showcase the interconnectedness of mathematics with other subjects and fields
  5. Make mathematics more inclusive and enjoyable for diverse learners

The final event of the day was a Poster Making Competition conducted for Class XI students. The students created stunning posters that illustrated the importance of Mathematics in everyday life, portraying its beauty through visual art. The posters reflected a variety of Mathematical concepts, such as symmetry, geometry, and the connection between Mathematics and nature. The creativity and effort put into the posters impressed both students and faculty alike, reinforcing the idea that Mathematics can be both an art and a science.

The day was a resounding success, with students engaging in lively discussions and showcasing their talents and knowledge. The activities not only celebrated the life and legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan but also emphasised the importance of Mathematics in shaping modern society. The event was a fitting tribute to the discipline and provided an opportunity for the students to connect with the subject in a fun and meaningful way.

Maxfort School, Rohini, looks forward to continuing its tradition of celebrating National Mathematics Day with more such enriching activities in the future too for providing a fruitful learning experience to the students.
